BizJournal reports that Amazon Web Services is looking to develop a third data center campus in Hilliard, Ohio. Hilliard’s economic development director, David Meadows, told BizJournal, that AWS will start developing a 151-acre site located at 4120 Scioto Darby Road, near I-270. The planned data center campus is an addition to the already announced campus facility located between Leppert and Cosgray roads. AWS bought the 104-acre site in October 2020 for $14.5m, with development scheduled for late 2021. However, construction was stalled because the city had to provide the proper infrastructure while AWS completed its fiber-optic network.

According to Meadows, AWS always had plans for the third data center campus. However, it wanted to speed up the development process due to the increased demand for cloud services. The land located on Sciot Darby Road was purchased in January 2021 for $15.29 million. Amazon Web Services first opened its Ohio Cloud region in 2016.
