CyrusOne has begun construction on a new data center campus in Texas, breaking ground last week in Freestone County, about 90 miles (144 km) south of Dallas. Full details of the planned development have not yet been disclosed.
CyrusOne has partnered with Constellation on a 380MW agreement to power a new data center development adjacent to the Calpine-operated Freestone Energy Center in Texas. The companies later signed a second 380MW agreement at the same site. The Freestone Energy Center is a 1GW natural gas-fired combined-cycle facility near Fairfield, Texas, located on roughly 506 acres. Calpine received regulatory approval around May to co-locate a data center at the site.
CyrusOne, owned by KKR, operates more than 50 data centers across the US and Europe. In Texas alone, it has over 14 planned and operational facilities, many concentrated in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. The company is also developing a 400MW campus next to Calpine’s Thad Hill Energy Center in Bosque County. The first building is under construction and is expected to go live in Q4 2026.
