Equinix: Equinix Is Expanding In Chennai, India After $9m Land Acquisition

Equinix is expanding in India as it acquired a plot of land in Chennai. This is part of the company’s expansion and growth strategy. The company revealed that it took possession of the 5.5-acre land in the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd (SIPCOT) IT Park. According to Equinix, it paid $9 million to acquire the land on a long-term lease.

The managing director of Equinix India, Manoj Paul, said a lot of the company’s customers want to expand beyond Mumbai. He added that Chennai is the most popular choice of its customers, which is why the company is investing there. Furthermore, Paul noted that Equinix’s goal is to enable digital businesses in locations that customers want. Equinix entered the Indian data center market in 2020. Since then, it has made significant strides, including acquiring GPX Global Systems’ Indian operations for $161 million. The move saw Equinix take control of two facilities in Mumbai.
