Equinix will invest $42 million in a new data center in Mumbai, India. The MB4 data center is anticipated to be operational by the end of the fourth quarter 2023. The MB4 data center is in the Kalwa Industrial Area, approximately 9 miles from the company's two other IBX data centers in Mumbai. The initial capacity will be 350 cabinets, increasing to 700 upon completion of construction.

The site will be linked to Equinix's MB1 and MB2 sites through its Metro Connect solution, which provides network connections between Equinix's IBX data centers. The MB1 and MB2 sites host five Internet exchanges and are home to customers, including Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Oracle Cloud.

Equinix maintains 250 data centers worldwide, 52 of which are in Asia Pacific. Equinix acquired GPX Global Systems in order to penetrate the Indian market. The deal was disclosed in August 2020 and closed in September 2021, with the colo giant paying $161 million for two data centers in Mumbai.
