Amazon AWS: Hines To Lease a Data Center in Hayward To Amazon

According to CoStar, Amazon has leased a new purpose-built data center under construction in California's East Bay area. The data center is at the upcoming Hayward Exchange @92 industrial complex in Hayward. Hines owns the property, and it started work on the site's redevelopment in May 2021. The property is a four-building complex, and it spans over 55,700 square meters (600,000 square feet). Three of the buildings will be for industrial purposes, while the last one will be for the proposed Amazon data center.

The proposed data center will provide up to 49MW of capacity. Interestingly, Hines has not been a major player in the data center market. However, it has made some impressive deals in the market. It served as EdgeX Data Center's development manager in Oklahoma. It also made over $110m in buying and selling the Komo Plaza in Seattle, a data center facility, and a regional carrier hotel.
