A 1.6MW data center in Ames, Iowa, has been put on the market for $4 million. The 15,510 sq ft (1,440 sqm) facility sits on a 63,655 sq ft (5,915 sqm) site at 1205 Buckeye Avenue and includes two data halls and two diesel generators.
Built in 1990, the data center is owned by Employers Mutual Casualty (EMC), a commercial property and casualty insurer. The facility was listed for sale on June 10, 2026. EMC began transitioning to Guidewire Cloud in 2019, a cloud-based platform built on Amazon Web Services infrastructure and designed for insurance carriers.
Ames, located in Story County in central Iowa, is home to few data centers. According to Data Center Map, the only other facility in the city is operated by IT services provider Global Reach. The majority of Iowa's data center capacity is concentrated in Des Moines, situated around 30 miles (48km) south of Ames.
