Facebook: Meta To Develop $800m Data Center in Temple, Texas

Meta is going to develop a data center in Temple, Texas. The social media giant plans to develop the new facility on a 393-acre site located off Industrial Blvd. and NW H K Dodgen Loop. When completed, the new data center will have up to 83,600 square meters (900,000 square feet) of space. Work is scheduled to start in Spring 2022. The company’s community and economic development director, Darcy Northnagle, said Meta is happy to announce Temple as its new home. She noted that Meta had been well received by fantastic local partners, and the company is looking to work with them and invest immensely in the community.

The company plans to invest up to $800 million in developing the facility. This will be Meta’s 17th data center in the US and its second in Texas. According to Meta, the Temple data center will make use of 100% green energy. In addition, the company is also investing in the Richland Chambers Creek Wildlife Management Area. The investment will see over 64 million gallons of water restored yearly to Texas watersheds.
