Amazon AWS: The Dublin City Council Challenges AWS' Plans For Another Data Center

Plans for another Amazon Web Services data center in Dublin, Ireland, are at risk of being stopped by the local council. The council asked AWS for proof that another data center would not over-saturate the area. AWS plans to build some facilities in north Dublin near its existing data center within the Clonshaugh Business and Technology Park. It plans to develop two data center buildings, each on the former Ricoh building site and the Woodlands & Former Diamond Innovations Site.

The Dublin City Council has now asked AWS to provide evidence that granting permission for the development of a new facility in Clonshaugh would not lead to the over-saturation of data centers in the area. In the last few months, there have been data center issues in Ireland, particularly Dublin. Political parties and environmentalists have called for a moratorium on future data center developments across the country. The country also seems to be looking to reduce the number of data center projects.
