Reports are circulating that President Volodymyr Zelensky is seeking to attract hyperscalers into Ukraine, following Zelensky meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook regarding the tech giant’s expansion into the country. However, the president’s plans to expand Ukraine’s data center footprint appear to extend beyond Apple.

European Solidarity parliamentarian Oleksiy Honcharenko announced in Telegram that President Zelensky has a “Plan of Transformation of Ukraine for 5-10 years,” which includes “80 projects worth $ 277 billion”. Specifically, Honcharenko outlined the president is targeting Amazon, Google and Microsoft to “build large-scale data centers in Ukraine.”

These plans align with Ukraine’s Diia City initiative, which is pushing for the country to become more tech-friendly. Potential future projects include building large-scale data centers from Amazon /AWS, Microsoft Azure, Alphabet/Google Cloud, the construction of towers for mobile base stations along railway tracks, providing zero-percent credit resources for the purchase of American-made telecommunication equipment by Ukrainian mobile operators.
