Despite there being what is being called “the crypto winter,” Validus Power Corp has announced that it is planning more cryptomining data centers at natural gas power stations in Ontario, Canada. This announcement comes after the company acquired the Iroquois Falls and Kingston Efficient Natural Gas-Fired Generating Facilities from Northland Power in April 2022.

The company is reportedly developing two crypto mining facilities in Kapuskasing and North Bay, Ontario, and now plans to add to these two facilities with another data center Iroquois Falls in Northern Ontario. The company has announced that the latter has a capacity of 120 MW and is a natural-gas-fired power center, while at the Kingston location, the facility is also natural-gas-fired power center with 110 MW of capacity.

In association with the development of the new cryptominng facility, the company also plans to develop a $2 million recreation center for local residents: “Validus Power Corp, in conjunction with Tightline Construction and the town of Iroquois Falls, is proud to announce the development of the Leo Bechard Recreation Centre. This recreation center will include a splash pad, a tennis court, a basketball court, a pickleball court and an accessible playground for the community to enjoy. This project is set to commence construction [in] spring of 2023," the company said in a statement.
